Second Half Highlights

All Goals

Napoli were out of the blocks quickly thanks to Edinson Cavani giving the home side an early lead against AS Roma. This would prove to be the only goal of an eventful first half.

Slipped in by Goran Pandev and left one on one with the Roma goalkeeper Cavani makes no mistake with a right foot finish to get Napoli off to a flying start.

Roma did have chances to get back into the game but Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis was up to the task as he kept out both Mattia Destro and Miralem Pjanic to keep the away side at bay.

The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first. When Edinson Cavani (‘El Matador’) put his side 2-0 up within minutes of the restart after a mix up in the Roma defence allowed the forward to spin and hit his shot into the ground which bounced over Goicochea’s flailing hand.

Cavani then punished Roma again for the third time as Walter Mazzarri’s men struck goal number three from a corner. The sensational Cavani out jumped Nicolas Burdisso to head home from close range.

Roma hit back almost immediately through Osvaldo who had replaced Destro. The Italo-Argentinean ran onto a Pjanic through ball and slipped his shot passed the advancing De Sanctis. It was to be Pjanic’s final contribution as the Bosnian was red carded two minutes later for a second yellow, and with that went any hope of a Roma fightback.

On 90 minutes, Christian Maggio completed the rout as he burst through to score Napoli’s fourth after his first attempt was blocked by the Roma keeper. The victory puts the Partenopei third in Serie A, just two points behind Lazio and a further seven back from Juventus.
