Chelsea and Tottenham managers pay tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson after their Premier League draw

Tottenham Hotspur twice came from behind at Stamford Bridge to salvage a point in their Premier League match with Chelsea as both sides strive for a Champions League qualification place.

Spurs coach Andre Villas-Boas and Chelsea interim manager Rafa Benitez also paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson, who will leave Manchester United at the end of this season.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham Manager
"Obviously we did ever so well to get a point in a difficult situation so I'm extremely pleased by that performance. The reality is that we have to do our job and hopefully something can happen. I think that there is a great example of Tottenham's determination and ambition this evening when we saw the Tottenham players pick up the ball from the back of the net when they scored at 2-2. I think it shows how much we want to be in there (the Champions League next season). For all the determination and ambition that we showed this season, hopefully we can be rewarded in the end with qualifying for it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham Manager (Q: What are your thoughts on hearing that Sir Alex Ferguson is to retire?)
"Yes. A great surprise and great sadness. The world of football will miss his great example of a manager for his charisma, his passion. The teams that he has built as successful as they were. The amount of times that he had to reinvent the team and was successful shows the quality of the manager. But what stands out is his human values and his passion for the game and the example that he has managed to set out without one single mistake for the seasons that he was in charge. So it is with great pity that I see him leave but the legacy that he leaves speaks for itself."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rafa Benitez, Chelsea interim manager (Q: Are you disappointed that you could only draw the match?)
"Yes. I thought that we had the chances on the counter attack to score the third goal and finish the game so I think that we scored the first one, we gave them the opportunity to counter attack when we had control. We scored the second goal and after it was the same. Three or four counter attacks that we would have to have finished to maybe kill the game. We didn't do it and then they were pushing. The second goal, Adebayor was offside but still we have to defend a little bit better but it was an open game. Good for the fans. Good for you (journalists) Not for us because we were in control and we didn't win."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rafa Benitez, Chelsea interim manager
"I am the one that knows the players. If not, if I don't train with the players everyday. If I don't see how they train and what they can do, I would be there (where journalist is sitting) rather than here."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rafa Benitez, Chelsea interim manager (Q: What are your thoughts on hearing that Sir Alex Ferguson is to retire?)
"I said before that I like to challenge and compete against him, but now that he has retired I wish him health and hopefully he can enjoy his retirement."
