Pardew targets top ten finish for Newcastle




Alan Pardew has targeted a top-10 finish in the Premier League following Newcastle's Europa League exit.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager (On their Europe League experience):
"It's something I said in the dressing room after. We've gained experience in this run, we've been out of Europe for a while, but we've put ourselves back on the stage in a credible fashion and now we want to get more of it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager (On the rest of the season):
"Our next target I think after going out tonight will be to try and secure a top ten finish if we can. And with all the injuries that we've had and the credible performance that we've put in Europe, I'll have to take that as a season of real learning curve for us in terms of the injuries we sustained. And we need to know that the next time we go into Europe we need to be better prepared than we were this season."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager (On tonight's match and if he thought they were favourites after the first goal):
"I thought the fact that Benfica really had a problem with us at that stage, yeah I probably did, and I honestly felt that we would get a second goal. And we were so unlucky. I think the pass from Hatan (Ben Arfa) to Papiss (Cisse) in the box was like an inch out, the shot he just got under it a little bit. It was just those fine margins that were the difference."
